This site is intended to give a broad overview of the 1729-1769 Corsican Revolution for an English-speaking audience. Unfortunately, many of the top search results for this topic contain egregious misinformation. As of February 2024, the Wikipedia page for the Corsican Republic (1755-69) incorrectly claims that the Corsican Republic allowed female suffrage, citing only a 19th-century biography as a source. Another top result, one from JSTOR Daily, credits the 1755 Constitution of the Corsican Republic as the "first written constitution" in the world, a ridiculous claim which ignores not only the many written constitutions that preceded the Corsican Revolution (to name just one, the 1653 Instrument of Government in the English Commonwealth) but also the various constitutional documents drafted at earlier stages of the Corsican Revolution. Hopefully, this website can provide a more accurate view based on modern (mostly French) scholarship.
At present, I have only completed one chapter, focusing on the pre-revolutionary period. I can't make any promises about the pace of my writing, but, if my schedule allows, I'm hoping to post a new chapter every few months.
For those who are interested in the Corsican Revolution and can read French, I would recommend consulting Antoine Franzini's Un Siècle des Revolutions Corses and Antoine-Marie Graziani's biography of Pasquale Paoli instead. For everyone else, welcome.
